About Wellness Week - Liver Cleanse
The liver is the largest organ in the body. One of its functions is to break down toxins like alcohol, bacteria, parasites, and drug compounds. This week we use herbal remedies, which are designed to help the liver with this task by strengthening it and clearing congestions, so that the cleansing can happen efficiently.
The liver also produces the bile, which is needed for proper digestion of food. The bile is produced constantly during the day, but the need for bile varies according to the food digestion. The left-over bile is stored in the gallbladder. The problem occurs when the bile is hardening and forms stones in the liver (intrahepatic) and gallbladder (gallstones). A special liver flush developed by Andreas Moritz* can clear up liver and gallbladder from stones.
Indications for Liver Stones:
- The so-called liver spots (brown spots) on the back of the hands and forearms, often seen among middle-aged and elderly people.
- Vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows with one or several lines in this region.
- Tiredness. "Tiredness is the pain of the liver" as common wisdom says.
What are the consequences?
When the liver gets clogged up with stones, it interferes with the detoxification process happening in the liver. Liver stones lead not only to liver dysfunction, but also to poor circulation, enlargement of the heart and spleen, varicose veins, congested lymph vessels and hormone imbalance. They affect the whole body system. For instance stones in the liver drastically cut down glucose supply to the brain and the rest of the nervous system, which can affect the performance of the organs, senses and mind. At the early stages of imbalance, a person may develop food cravings, particularly for sweet and starchy foods, and experience frequent mood swings or emotional stress. Other symptoms of congestion are allergies, fatigue, headaches, migraines, digestive problems, joint pains, shoulder-, neck-, back aches, high cholesterol, menstrual problems, depression, sexual impotence and more.
Why does the bile harden?
Bile, a greenish fluid, runs through the liver pathways. The liquid flows from the hepatic ducts to the common bile duct to the gallbladder, where the bile is stored. Bile is needed to digest food. The liver has developed a rhythm to produce bile, which is most active around noon time. The result of interruption or change of this rhythm is that the bile doesn't get used and clogs up the pathways. The bile stays in the gallbladder and liver and hardens to stones, which keep getting bigger the longer they are there. Stones are mostly made of cholesterol. They look greenish or yellowish and are of a soft consistency. They can have different sizes and shapes. I observed stones of 2-3 cm big, pea-size, and smaller (gravel).
Further reasons for hardening of bile:
irregular eating habits, heavy meals in the evening, overeating, excessive protein, consumption, beverages (black tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, alcohol), comsumption of refined salt, dehydration, rapid weight loss, pharmaceutical drugs (incl. hormone replacement therapy, birth control pills), irregular sleeping habits, watching TV for too many hours, emotional stress
During this week you have the opportunity to do the liver flush inclusive the 6 days of preparation according to Andreas Moritz where you get rid of liver - and gallbladder stones. You can also choose to follow a different liver cleanse and for instance eat grilled oranges or do other herbal treatments for your liver during this week if you cannot make a commitment to continue monthly with the liver flush. We will provide a diet and treatment plan for these cleanses for you.
Further you will attend seminars about liver health, yoga exercises for liver health, massages, colonics, explore the beach and the dunes of Egmond aan Zee, do a yogic colon cleanse, a satyamang
